VTS is the largest provider of THE RIDE service, with a fleet of over 260 vehicles and over 300 drivers supplying well over 750,000 rides for our passengers each year.
In order to properly serve our THE RIDE customers, all drivers have received paid training in:
- Passenger Sensitivity and Safety
- CPR and First Aid.
- Must pass a Defensive Driving Class (DDC).
VTS is committed to providing quality, safe transportation to all of its THE RIDE passengers. The staff in our driving, reservations, scheduling, dispatch & maintenance, operations & safety, and training departments are dedicated to upholding that commitment at the highest possible level.
THE RIDE is administered by the MBTA’s Office for Transportation Access (OTA), and is operated in compliance with the federal government’s Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

On the road safety training includes familiarization with routes, local areas, and traffic regulations, with multiple on the road examples. Additionally, a defensive driving course is taught each year by a certified trainer.
